E-Democracy tools


Activity:

The various functions of e-democracy are associated with a number of challenges, which are addressed through the use of a number of tools. The three main functions of e-Democracy are:

  • facilitate public participation in civil society
  • help governments, politicians and citizens to engage in dialogue with each other.
  • achieve a high level of collaboration by strengthening active participation within various democratic processes

What kind of online tools do you think can promote such functions and hence e-Democracy? As a start, you can think of tools and applications you already use in your daily life and/or use the internet for a relevant research. Post your answer as a comment underneath.

Οι λειτουργίες που σχετίζονται με τον όρο 'Hλεκτρονική Δημοκρατία΄ (e-Democracy) εμπεριέχουν προκλήσεις οι οποίες μπορούν να αντιμετωπιστούν μέσα από τη χρήση ποικίλων εργαλείων. Οι τρεις κύριες λειτουργίες της 'Ηλεκτρονικής Δημοκρατίας΄είναι:
  • Βοηθά στη μεγιστοποίηση της δημόσιας συμμετοχικότητας στην κοινωνία των πολιτών

  7. I think social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are good tools to promote E-democracy. Pretty much everyone has an account nowadays and use it daily. Blogs and websites could be very beneficial as well.

  12. In my opinion, Facebook and Twitter are the best choices to promote such functions since a lot of people around the world use them. Also G-mail, on-line forums and blogs are slightly underestimated while the have many people watching them and sharing them.

  14. I believe that every social media (such as facebook, twitter, tumblr) can be really usefull for e-democracy if they are proper used. Moreover I strongly believe that blogs and public forums coulb promote e-democracy too.

  15. I agree that Facebook could help but I think Twitter would be even more helpful because Facebook is much less formal and often the opinions spread are thoughtless.

  17. My personal belief is that e-democracy (and correlated functions) can be promoted by social media, which are a great deal of our life in general. People log in to facebook, tumblr, instagram, twitter etc. and it would be a blessing if people used these as tools to the promotion to e-democracy and not only for entertainment or communication. Although I believe forms of digital art could also influence people in a positive manner as far as e-democracy is concerned.

I believe that Twitter can enforce the development of e-democracy because everyone can see anything and that means that everyone could form an opinion about an item, which may be on the top of world topics or not. Via Twitter, every politician can argue for his statement and explain this to the public and the the dialogue between politicians can develop in democratic way, because everyone wait peacefully for others' answer. I also believe that Facebook could help e-democracy.

  19. Facebook isn't an only solution.I believe that, there are many kinds of community which you can chat with your friends etch. Firtsly messenger instagram and skype. At these you can chat, video chat.

  21. I think social networks like Facebook and/or Twitter can promote e-democracy. Also forums and group chats can promote e-democracy because people can interact with each other and even post photos if they want so!
